We've added several new therapists to our team here at Soma, and I've loved them all! (Naturally -- or else I wouldn't have hired them!) But my massage with Tina this week was really over the top incredible, and I wanted to share my experience with you. The last two weeks have been more stressful than usual, and my sleep was really suffering: I was waking up in the middle of the night with thoughts zooming through my head, unable to fall back to sleep. As a result, I was starting to feel worn down and achy in all those problem spots, and I was hoping that a massage might help quiet my mind and get me out of my sympathetic nervous system (the "fight or flight" one) and restart my parasympathetic nervous system instead (the "rest and digest" one). The ONLY time I could get in was on a Monday morning -- which is probably the least convenient time for my schedule -- but I was desperate. I saw that Tina had a block of time available so I took it. And have zero regrets! We started out the session with me checking in and letting her know my goals: I wanted my brain to shut up so my body could balance itself again. My left shoulder had been bothering me, and I wanted some attention on that area. Then she left the room to wash her hands and give me some privacy to get undressed. When she returned, she dimmed the lights, turned up the heated table warmer (it's been chilly in the mornings, y'all!) and got straight to work. She hardly spoke, unless it was to ask about the pressure. After weeks of overloaded brain activity, it was refreshing to not have to say a single word or think about anything. What a relief! But here's the best part: I FORGOT WHERE I WAS. My brain had so completely relaxed that I had literally no concept of time or space. The focused work she did on my low back and shoulder was exactly what I had hoped for, and the massage on my face (yes, my face!) was something I didn't even mention, but will be certain to request again because it was soooo good. She remembered exactly what it was I had asked for, listened to my goals, and took her time. I get regular massages here (obviously) but this massage with Tina was truly amazing. Both times I've seen her, I've had this experience. It was a complete brain detox, and best of all, I've been sleeping soundly ever since. The effects of the massage are still with me and I definitely know who I'm calling the next time I need to calm down. If you haven't booked with Tina yet, what are you waiting for? I'm so grateful that she's here and that I've had a couple of massages with her to understand the healing gift that she has.
