You're sore, you're stressed, and you know you need a massage -- but do you know which one you want? Is a sports massage going to help you more, or is it a deep tissue session that you need? Sports massage isn't just for athletes -- it's beneficial for anyone who feels they need to improve their range of motion, increase their flexibility, and replenish their muscles. This style of massage typically incorporates more stretching and movement in order to acheive those goals, and is often times a bit lighter in pressure than deep tissue work so as to maintain the integrity of the muscle fibers (the same muscle fibers that you need intact for the big event, or the ones that were just beaten up from that big event and need some TLC to recover!). It is recommended to bring a pair of gym shorts and a loose fitting t-shirt or tank top to your session, though it is not required. A deep tissue massage, however, is typically a bit firmer pressure and utilizes more direct techniques such as muscle stripping, trigger point work, and myofascial release. If you have a knot that just won't quit, a band of muscles that feels taut and tied up, and overall body tension and muscle aches, a deep tissue session might be good for you. And don't let the name throw you off! If you prefer a lighter touch, simply ask! The techniques that we use don't always require deep pressure, but rather a focused intention on specific areas. While every therapist here is skilled in deep tissue massage, not everyone here is trained in sports massage -- so if it's a sports session that you're after, be sure to request that type of therapist! And while we never charge extra for deep tissue work, a sports massage is an additional $10. Curious about the other styles of massage that we offer?
