Hey everybody, it’s Larry Bigel here, the Director of Tampa Fine Arts Academy, with a brief update. We have some exciting news to share with you.First off, our virtual recital will be streaming LIVE on our FB page. It starts at 4pm on Saturday April 10th. Just go to our FB page Tampa Fine Arts Academy to see the event. If you are not on Facebook, you can just go to the link www.facebook.com/tampafineartsacademy and scroll through to get the live video streaming.So, we’re expecting a very busy summer season this year for a variety of factors. One of the main ones being that even though 70 percent of our students have been back in person for quite some time now, we’re going to have a lot of new students that have been cooped up and they’re ready to get started with in person lessons. So, we’re expecting a jamming summer session. What does that mean to you?Well, a lot of our teachers are already full. They have no spots available. Even though we do have some availability, it just varies instrument to instrument. So, the big thing is what we don’t want to happen is somebody leaves for summer, they try to call us back in August and we have no spots for them. That’s the scenario we want to avoid. So, remember, if you’re a current student or if you want to come on and join us, here is the way we could help you for the summer so that you can keep your day and time with your teacher when August resumes.We have 3 great options for you. 1, you’re welcome to Zoom in for your lesson. 2, you’re welcome to take advantage of our group makeup offerings and 3, you can sub lease your spot to a family member or friend. But the big thing is, enjoy your summer. Go to the beach for a week, whatever it is you’re going to do and travel. Have a great time. But don’t lose your spot with your teacher by withdrawing because you want to keep that spot, especially a prime time spot between the hours of 3:30 and 7:30. Those are the spots that are in the most demand. So, take advantage of our summer make up options. Get a hold of the office and they can tell you more.Now we have some exciting things for you in store the next couple of months!We are so appreciative for all of you and we're so thankful for this great community we live in. And we want to help give back to all of you. So what I did was buy a bunch of gift certficates to various local restaurants, We spent over $1,000 in gift certificates and swag. And we're gonna give them all to you. We got Brunchies, Florida Avenue Brewing Company, Latin Twist, to name a few. So stop on by and spin the wheel for your chance to win one of these great prizes.On Sunday, May 16th, we're having our 15 year anniversary celebration. It's going to be at Land O Lakes Heritage Park off 41. We got some food trucks, cool bands performing, some open jams as well. We have plenty of room in a wide open field. We'd love to see you there.One of things we love to do in our school is try new things, bring you new programs. We started our Zoom practice sessions. The teachers love seeing the students and I think the students like meeting other kids who play music. I want to wish all of you well and give you an update on our school. Here’s what’s going on for 2021.First of all, thank you for helping us win Hulafrog’s Most Loved Music School for the 2nd year in a row. And thank you, thank you for helping us grow over the last few months. We are so close to reaching our milestone of 600 students. We’d love for you to help us reach this goal! Remember, if you refer a friend and they enroll with us, each of you will receive a $25 Target or Amazon gift card. We are so thankful for all the referrals we’ve received so far, and would love to give out more gift cards to you! So feel free to let you friends know about us and we’ll take care of both you and your friend!GIVING BACK TO YOU We know a lot of people are struggling during this time. So, we decided to do a Give Back campaign and here’s what we’ve come up with. We talked to our friends that run independent local restaurants and the thing they said they needed help with the most is they said they needed people to buy gift certificates. So, as a token of our appreciation for you, the people of our community, we’re gonna buy 1,000 dollars of gift certificates to various local restaurants. If you have any particular restaurants in mind that you like, feel free to let us know and we’ll see about including them in our give back campaign.Later this month, we will have a prize wheel. But to provide an opportunity to our students who may not quite feel comfortable with in person recitals yet, we will hold a virtual recital in April.If you haven't already done so, please email your submissions by the end of this month. This is going to be really cool; I’m so excited. On the outdoor lawn of the park; there’s plenty of space to spread out; we’ll have blankets and people can bring their stuff. We’re going to have food trucks and fun games.There will be a fun surprise that I'm not going to reveal just yet! We’ll have the stage outside where a couple of student bands will perform. Also have an open jam session. It’s going to be a blast! And we can’t wait. I mean last September is when we technically have been in business for 15 years. So this celebration is long overdue!COVID UPDATEHere's a brief update on our COVID protocol. We are glad to see vaccines have started to be distributed and we are optimistic in seeing promising signs of the pandemic settling down in the future. We do foresee being able to resume our group makeup classes in person sometime this year. But for the time being, we still want to keep our safety measures in place - staying socially distant, limiting traffic in our school, sanitizing, using PPE, etc. GMUs will still be on Zoom as this situation remains fluid. We will be providing another update within a couple of months or if there happens to be a significant change in the situation.We are planning to stay flexible by providing virtual and in person options, and will continue to do so even after this pandemic is over. You are always welcome to switch between in person and online lessons at any time. If you are doing a virtual lesson, all we ask is to please make sure you are in an area where you can have a stable connection while you are logged into Zoom.ADDED BENEFIT FOR YOU Now I’m really excited to share this free addition to our lesson program that I think is going to be a game changer for all of you! One of the common things we’ve heard over the years is the challenge of getting students to practice. Well we’re really excited to announce our first practice challenge!Busy parents, we know how it is. Sometimes, you’re just trying to get dinner made or you’ve got stuff that needs to be done and you want your child to practice. So, we’ve set up (free for our clients) practice Zoom rooms. It’s very easy. Look out for an email as we will be starting this Practice Challenge after Spring Break. When you get the email, there will be instructions on how to get the login information and the schedule.The way it works is when your child logs in, we’ll set each of them up in their own breakout room. And there will be a proctor who will help motivate your child, guide them and they’ll practice! That’s a free service for you, our clients, to make it easier on everybody and we’re really excited about that new thing and everyone who participates will have a chance to win prizes such as $100 cash, gift cards, and special wristbands and stickers. Fear is something we all struggle with.And I watched my youngest daughter deal with fear last weekend.We took a drive to one of the local parks to give me a little respite from the screaming and chaos happening in my home.When we arrived I watched her eyes light up at all of the fun things to do.Slides.Climbing.Swings.And so much more.But that excitement turned to uncertainty.From the outside, it looked amazing.But trying something new was terrifying.As she holds my leg tightly I wonder what’s racing through her head…“Will I get hurt?”“There’s too much going on.”But at that moment she had two options:1) Continue to be paralyzed with fear2) Remove the anxiety, jump in, and experience something newAs a toddler, she may not have the ability to name those feelings and emotions, but as an adult I know I’ve been there.I encouraged her to go for it."Have fun.""Experience something new and exciting."After continuing to encourage her, she let go of my leg and began to adventure out.Guess what? She had a blast.The entire car ride home was her begging me to go back tomorrow. (let’s also not ignore that there was a meltdown because she didn’t want to leave)Yesterday, I watched a new student experience this EXACT process.He walked in, clenching mom’s leg.Nervous. ,12 year-old Katie played keyboards in one of our rock bands at the school. Katie was painfully shy in band practice but was always eager to contribute on the keyboards. Her secret weapon, however, was her voice. Katie could pretty much sing anything but would only agree to sing one song in the upcoming concert.At the concert Katie’s band ripped through some rock ‘n’ roll classics as the crowd cheered with approval. The band launched into Katie’s song, Wonderwall by Oasis. I noticed her fighting back tears a few beats into the music. Her cue to sing was just 8 counts away. Her rock band teacher looked at me in a panic. I gave him a “just relax, keep going” look. The band began to sound like a broken record, cycling through the chord changes again and again.It became self-evident that Katie was not going to sing. So I signaled to the teacher to sing the song instead. Seemingly out of nowhere, Katies big voice belted out “Today is gonna be the day…”.I looked over at Katie’s mom as she exhaled and collapsed her head on her husband’s shoulder in relief. It was a glorious moment for Katie as she broke through her wall of fear.Katie was a different kid the next time she stepped onto the stage.
